Bio:
Alex O’Connor is a photographer and director from a small countryside village just outside London. Growing up, he was constantly asking why things looked and felt the way they did.
MTV was always playing at home, courtesy of his mum, exposing Alex to different worlds, colours, music and ways of telling stories. Regular trips to the cinema with his dad only strengthened that curiosity. Directors like Christopher Nolan and Spike Jonze made things considerably worse. Before long, he was borrowing the school camera to make films of his own. Borrowing is the official version.
His first real education in image-making came from the Formula 1 archive, where he spent his days logging years of race footage and watching how different camera operators saw the same sport. It taught him composition, lenses, movement and, unexpectedly, a lot about storytelling. It also taught him more about Excel spreadsheets than he ever wanted to know.
That curiosity still drives his work today. Whether shooting stills or directing film, Alex is always chasing feeling first. He thinks about photographs as frames from a movie and is drawn to colour, character and the small human moments that make an image feel alive.
That same obsession has since taken him around the world with Formula 1 and into fashion, sport and commercial work.
Alex is based in London, although his passport would probably argue otherwise.
